Braces or Invisalign: which should you choose?

In short: Neither braces nor Invisalign are “better” in the abstract: it depends on your case and what you prioritise. Braces are usually more affordable and give a lot of control in difficult cases; Invisalign wins on aesthetics and comfort because it is almost invisible and you take it out to eat. How do they really differ?

Braces are the pieces that are bonded to each tooth and joined by a wire that gradually pulls them into place. You wear them for the whole treatment; they do not come off. Invisalign is a set of transparent trays made to measure that you put in and take out yourself, changing each one every one or two weeks.

The big practical difference: braces are fixed and work on their own; Invisalign depends on you being consistent and wearing the trays for the required hours. If you are forgetful, braces “force you” and that sometimes works in your favour.

Which one shows less?

Invisalign wins hands down here. Being transparent and removable, many people do not even notice you are wearing it, which matters quite a lot if you work with the public or simply do not want to sport a mouthful of wires.
