What is a dental implant?
A dental implant is an artificial titanium root that integrates with your bone, onto which a ceramic crown indistinguishable from a natural tooth is fixed. It is the most advanced and durable solution to replace lost teeth.
Unlike bridges or removable dentures, implants preserve the bone, do not damage adjacent teeth and can last over 25 years.
Benefits of dental implants
Natural look
Look, feel and function identical to a natural tooth. No one will notice the difference.
Durability
With proper care, an implant can last over 25 years or a lifetime.
Comfort
They are fixed. Eat, speak and smile without worries. Forget adhesives and removable dentures.
Our process, no surprises
3D diagnosis
Panoramic X-ray, 3D scan (CBCT) and digital planning. We assess bone, gums and anatomy, and show you the expected result before starting.
Placement
Computer-guided surgery under local anaesthetic or conscious sedation. 3D-printed guides place each implant in the exact position: minimal incision and faster recovery.
Integration
Over 2 to 4 months the implant fuses with your bone naturally. You will wear a temporary if needed, with periodic check-ups.
Final crown
Digital impressions with an intraoral scanner to make your ceramic or zirconia crown, custom in colour, shape and size. Ready for a lifetime.
Types of dental implants
Single implant
Replaces a single lost tooth without filing or damaging the neighbours. It is the most common and conservative procedure, with an excellent aesthetic and functional result.
Immediate loading
Fixed teeth in a day. When bone quality allows, we place the implant and a temporary crown in the same session. You leave the clinic with fixed teeth from day one.
All-on-4 / All-on-6
A full arch on 4 or 6 implants. The definitive alternative to dentures for those who have lost all or almost all their teeth: fixed, comfortable and far more aesthetic.
Conscious sedation
We know dental surgery makes anyone nervous. That is why we offer conscious sedation, a safe technique supervised by an anaesthetist that lets you stay completely relaxed.
You will feel no pain or stress, but you will be conscious and able to communicate with the team. Especially recommended for long procedures, several implants or dental phobia.
When bone is missing
If the bone has resorbed, it is not a barrier. We have several techniques:
- Guided bone regeneration with membranes and biomaterials.
- Bone graft, autologous or biocompatible synthetic.
- Maxillary sinus lift for the upper posterior area.
- Short or angled implants that make use of the available bone.

Everything about dental implants
Does getting a dental implant hurt?
No. The procedure is done under local anaesthetic, so you will feel nothing during placement. In the following 3 to 5 days some mild discomfort or swelling is normal, controlled with anti-inflammatories. Most patients are surprised by how little it bothers them. For extra comfort we offer conscious sedation supervised by an anaesthetist.
How much does a dental implant cost in Bilbao?
The price of a complete implant (implant + abutment + crown) in Bilbao ranges from €1,200 to €2,000, depending on complexity, the type of crown and whether bone regeneration is needed. For full rehabilitations (All-on-4/All-on-6) the cost per arch is €5,000 to €10,000. At the free first visit we give you a closed, personalised quote, with payment options and financing.
How long do dental implants last?
A well-placed implant can last over 25 years, and in many cases a lifetime. The crown may need replacing at 15-20 years. We use leading brands with a warranty.
Which is better: an implant or a dental bridge?
The implant is superior in most cases: a bridge requires filing down the two healthy adjacent teeth, weakening them forever; the implant anchors to the bone without touching the neighbours, preserves bone, lasts longer (25+ years vs 10-15) and is easier to clean. A bridge is only preferable when those teeth already need crowns for other reasons.
What if I do not have enough bone?
A lack of bone does not prevent implants. We offer guided bone regeneration, bone grafts, sinus lift and short or angled implants. Each case needs a prior 3D scan study, which we do at the free first consultation.
Can older people have implants?
Yes, there is no age limit. We routinely treat patients of 65, 70 and over with excellent results. What matters is not age but general health and bone quality, which we assess individually.
How long does the full treatment take?
Between 3 and 6 months including osseointegration. In immediate-loading cases you can leave with fixed teeth the same day, although the final crown is placed after integration is complete. The process includes several check-up visits.
What is immediate loading?
It is the technique that allows placing a temporary crown the same day as surgery, so you leave with fixed teeth from day one. Not all cases are suitable: it depends on implant stability (which we measure with RFA) and bone quality. Around 40-50% of patients are candidates; we tell you at the first consultation.
Can the body reject an implant?
Immune rejection of titanium is practically non-existent. In 2-3% of cases the implant may fail to integrate; it is then removed without damaging the bone and a new one is placed after 2-3 months of healing. Smoking, uncontrolled illnesses or poor hygiene can affect integration.
How do you care for dental implants?
Like natural teeth: brushing three times a day, daily floss or interdental brushes and an irrigator as a complement. Professional check-ups every 6 months are essential: we clean the implant with specific instruments and check bone and gum. With good hygiene, they can last a lifetime.
Do dental implants have a warranty?
Yes. We work with leading brands that offer a lifetime warranty on the titanium implant. We also give a warranty on the complete treatment, provided the 6-monthly check-ups are kept. It covers the implant, the crown and the surgical work.
Which implant brands do you use?
We work exclusively with world-leading brands such as Straumann, Nobel Biocare and BioHorizons, with decades of research, success rates above 97% and a lifetime warranty on the implant. Being international brands, any professional will be able to service your implants in the future if you travel or move.
How many implants do I need if I am missing several teeth?
Not always one per tooth. If several consecutive teeth are missing, we can place a bridge on 2 or 3 implants holding 4 or more crowns. For a full arch, All-on-4 fixes the whole denture on 4 implants. At the first consultation we assess how many you need.
Can I have implants if I smoke?
Yes, although tobacco increases the risk of complications by reducing blood flow to the gums. We recommend stopping smoking at least 2 weeks before and 8 weeks after surgery; if that is not possible, cutting down improves the outlook. Smokers who follow our guidance get good results.
Can an implant be placed the same day as an extraction?
Yes, that is the post-extraction implant. When conditions allow, we place the implant right after removing the tooth, reducing surgeries and the total treatment time.
